Justo una semana antes de la fecha l?mite para la presentaci?n de ofertas nacionales de liberalizaci?n de servicios, el lunes 7 de septiembre el presidente uruguayo Tabar? V?zquez decidi? abandonar las negociaciones plurilaterales cuasi-secretas para un Acuerdo sobre Comercio de Servicios (TISA, por su sigla en ingl?s).

IU llama a la defensa de la educación pública frente al TiSA IU llama a todas las organizaciones comprometidas con la defensa de la educación pública y la democracia a movilizarse para asegurar que el Estado cumpla su responsabilidad como garantes del derecho a la educación impidiendo que acuerdos como el TISA hipotequen en secreto el futuro de la población y su derecho a la educación.

341 organizaciones de la sociedad civil de más de 100 países enviaron una carta a los miembros de la OMC exigiendo que los gobiernos dejen de negociar la agenda equivocada de expansión de la OMC y en su lugar negocien una agenda centrada en la seguridad alimentaria y las necesidades urgentes de desarrollo de los países a favor de normas comerciales que faciliten en lugar de socavar u obstaculizar el desarrollo.

The Frontlines Initiative is a joint project of four national public sector unions - the Canadian Union of Postal Workers (CUPW), the Public Service Alliance of Canada (PSAC), the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE) and the National Union of Public and General Employees (NUPGE) - which joins forces with sister unions in Colombia to fight against the privatization of public services and to strengthen each other’s struggles to defend human and labour rights. The delegation in Colombia received an important briefing on the Trade in Services Agreement (TISA), a proposed international trade treaty that, if ratified, will put public services in Colombia, Canada and 48 other countries at extreme risk.
